After chatting with a friend about our plans for Christmas, we realised that we wanted to change our Christmas giving.
In previous years, we would try to get gifts like books that would remind people who Jesus is because Christmas is about commemorating his birth. But we usually just gave to our family and friends who don't have a lack of things so we were wondering how we could better spend the money and yet embrace the same meaning of sharing the message of Christmas.
Hence this year, we thought of getting a sheep for an Ethiopian orphan and food packs for needy children in Zambia via World Vision and just giving handmade tokens to our family and friends as mementos of these gifts. We also decided not to get gifts for our kids and explained to Sam our thoughts. Didn't have much time to find other possible avenues, especially since it's important to us how the message of Christmas is shared to those recipients instead of just receiving welfare. Hope we'll manage to find good alternatives for future celebrations! Would like to spend a bit more time praying and thinking through this.
